The Clay Township Police Department's 1st Citizen Police Academy Class of 1998 graduated on June 16th, with 16 students receiving diplomas. Congratulations goes out to all the students!

This year we are putting together our 2nd Citizen Police Academy class. The class will be 10 weeks long, held every Wednesday from 6:30pm to 9:30pm. The Academy will be April 10th through June 12th, 2002.

Prospective students must be 18 years or older. They must complete an application for admission, pass a criminal records check, and sign a release of liability before acceptance into the Academy. Applicants are notified by mail upon acceptance, placement on a waiting list, or rejection to the Academy. Class size is limited to 16 to 20 students. You must be a resident of Clay Township to apply.

The syllabus is designed to allow students to progress forward with their understanding while maintaining the maximum amount of safety for both the student and instructor. It has been designed in building block fashion with each successive class increasing the student's knowledge and understanding of police work.

Each class begins with the issuance of SPO's (Student Performance Objectives) outlining what will be accomplished. Students will be required to participate in the "citizen ride-along program" at least once during the Academy. This has the student ride along with an on-duty officer and is scheduled at the student's convenience.

You may complete the ONLINE APPLICATION or contact the Clay Township Police Department at 419-855-3444 for more information!
